Charleston Bridge
The Arthur Ravenal Jr. Bridge, aka the Cooper River Bridge, is the longest cable stayed bridge of its time in North America when it opened in 2005. It is the tallest structure in South Carolina. The Bridge itself has added a modern touch to historic Charleston and elegantly joins the city with neighboring Mount Pleasant.
While riding in a power boat under the structure, I was awed by the quiet strength of the supports. Standing on dredge spoil islands, the bridge carries X amount of cars and trucks across daily and that is the view most people experience. So, my experience riding under this great framework caused me to think differently about it.
Therefore, here is my marbling interpretation of the bridge. I captured the varied hues of blues for the sky with white puffy clouds, blues and greens for the water. I purposely created the water spray with a misting bottle to show my perspective. The bridge is hinted at with the brownish paint and cables are also a hint by my drawing pattern.
When the scarf is draped around your neck, both bridge supports will fall on either side of you.
Wear the Bridge scarf with quiet dignity as you go about your life!!

The scarf is 22 x 72", 100% silk habotai scarf. The fabric is a smooth, airy silk.
I washed the scarf first to rid the fabric of manufacturing residue, then soaked the fabric in alum to fix the pigments on the scarf. The 17th Century process of marbling is a dry garment to wet surface transfer.
After the scarf has been left to drip dry and rest for 7 days, then I carefully wash out the extra gel and paints to return the scarf to it's "soft as silk" nature!
